At long last, I went to Mount Saint Helens for a whole weekend to mountain bike as much as I could. Kelly met me along the interstate and we drove to the south-side of Mt. Saint Helens to the June Lake trailhead. By the time we were ready to ride at 11:30 am, it was rather warm and sunny. We packed plenty of water as the status of creeks was unknown. Our route would be June Lake -> Loowit -> (turn around at Abraham trail junction) -> Ape Canyon. The views were otherworldly at times and often changing completely within only a few hundred yards. The hike-a-bike along Loowit trail was the most scenic trail that I’ve carried my bike on, I think. Wow.
Back at the car, we met some of the trail runners we had passed during the day. They had done a 35 mile loop around Mt. Saint Helens.
